Announcement: 2nd January Sage Peachtree Payroll Solutions Update coming Dec 28th with the employee FICA rate revised

A two month extension of the employee Social Security (FICA) rate of 4.2% was passed today, December 23rd.   The 2nd January Sage Peachtree Payroll Solutions Update, which contains this rate,  will be released online Wednesday afternoon, December 28th.   Be sure to apply this update prior to running 2012 payroll.

 The CD containing the 2012 tables and 2011 forms has now been released to be replicated.  We will know by Dec 28th when those with a CD subscription will receive their CD’s.   The delivery of the CD will be in early January , check  2012 Social Security/FICA Rate Status/News for updates on deliver dates.  In the meantime, if you need to run payroll in the first week in January, you can receive the 2nd January Sage Peachtree Payroll Solutions online update starting the afternoon of Dec 28th. 

 

 

How to set up your Peachtree Accounting software to automatically check for Online Tax Updates

How to set up your software to automatically check for Online Tax Updates:

  1. Open your company in Peachtree.
  2. From within Sage Peachtree, from the Services menu, select Check for Updates.
  3. In the Peachtree Online Update window that appears, enter a checkmark for Remind me to check for updates and enter 5 for the day(s) field.
    During the month of December and January we recommend that you check for updates at least every 5 days to make sure you are notified promptly of the January and February Tax Updates to receive the latest Federal and State tax formulas.
  4. When the tax update is available, click the “Check Now” button. The new update will be listed in the Peachtree Online Update window.
  5. Place a checkmark next to the Payroll Solution Tax Service Update and select Download.
  6. Once the download is complete, select OK.
  7. Close Sage Peachtree and all applications.
  8. The Sage Peachtree Payroll Solutions Update installation program will start.
  9. Follow the steps prompted by the installation program to complete the Payroll Solutions Tax Update Service Installation.
  10. On the Setup Complete window, make sure you check the box that allows you to view information about this update, and then click Finish.
  11. The Sage Peachtree Tax Bulletin appears. Review the Tax Bulletin to get detailed information about the tax and program changes included in this Payroll Tax Update Service. The Tax Service Bulletin is also accessible via the Start menu in Windows and contained with the folder labeled “Peachtree Accounting”.

Note: If the Sage Peachtree Payroll Solutions tax update does not start automatically after being downloaded from within Peachtree, you can browse to the location of the downloaded file and execute it manually.

  1. Close Sage Peachtree and all other applications.
  2. Browse to the Updates folder located in your data path directory.
  3. Double-click the latest Tax Update.
  4. Once the update is completed, open your Sage Peachtree Company and from the Help menu, select About Peachtree Accounting to verify that the update installed.

Note: You may have multiple Tax Updates located in your Updates folder.  You should always install the latest Tax Update available for your product.

Tax Update Install Instructions – CD Delivery

Note: Be sure to install this CD on each workstation that has Sage Peachtree installed, and follow directions for any notifications regarding your firewall or anti-virus programs. Certain Sage Peachtree files may trigger an alert message from these types of programs; you must allow these Sage Peachtree files to run for a successful installation.

    1. Close Sage Peachtree and all other applications.
    2. Insert the payroll tax solution CD into your CD-ROM drive. The Sage Peachtree Payroll Solutions window appears.
      If this window does not automatically appear, do the following:

 

    • On Windows XP®, select Start/Run. On the command line, type D:Autorun (substitute the appropriate drive letter for your CD-ROM drive), and then click OK.
    • On Windows Vista® or Windows® 7, select Start and type D:Autorun in the search box (substitute the appropriate drive letter for your CD-ROM drive), and then hit Enter on the keyboard.
  1. On the Sage Peachtree Payroll Solutions window, select to install the Tax Tables and Forms Update.
  2. Follow the steps prompted by the installation program to complete the installation.
  3. On the Setup Complete window, check the box that allows you to view information about this Update, then click Finish.
  4. The Payroll Solutions tax solution bulletin appears. Review the Tax Bulletin to get the detailed information about the tax and program changes included in this Update. The Tax Service Bulletin is also accessible via the Start menu in Windows and contained with the folder labeled “Peachtree Accounting”.

Sage North America CEO Pascal Houillon announced today that, as part of our commitment to simplifying interactions with Sage, we will be introducing a new way of presenting the Sage North America product portfolio, designed to help you more easily choose which Sage products are best suited to your needs.

Beginning in 2012, Sage North America will be using a product numbering system: Sage 50, Sage 100, Sage 300, and Sage 500. Learn more about these product families. The numbers help to identify the increasing levels of functionality or sophistication of the product lines. They help to make clear which products are most suitable for a business at different stages of the business growth cycle.

Sage 50 is the new name that will be adopted for our small business accounting lines. That means Sage Peachtree products, available throughout the U.S., will be marketed as Sage 50—U.S. Edition beginning with the next major upgrade in May 2012. Sage Simply Accounting products, which are available across Canada, will be marketed as Sage 50—Canadian Edition beginning with their next major upgrade, scheduled for October 2012.

As we begin to provide you with information about the next release, you can expect to see the Sage 50 name introduced in our Sage Peachtree communications. In addition, the Sage Peachtree website will convert to the Sage 50 name in the May time frame.

Sage Details Re-branding Roadmap ~ Sage Peachtree will be Sage 50 Accounting

Sage North America executives, including vice president of channel management Tom Miller and VP of marketing Dennis Frahmann, spoke with hundreds of partners today explaining exactly what products will change, what will remain the same, and how Sage plans to assist with marketing efforts behind the renamed product lines.

As announced in July during Sage Summit, the majority of Sage’s product names such as Accpac, MAS, Timberline, and even Peachtree will soon become a memory as major re-branding efforts will result in much of the software becoming simply the company name and a number.

Sage North America chief executive Pascal Houillon had stressed that across Europe the Sage brand is widely known, and its products all have the Sage brand followed by a number. The company’s goal is to have North American products more in line with the rest of Sage, solidifying the company’s identity among its customers.

Product name changes in North America are expected to begin as early as April 2012, which will usher in Sage 100 Contractor to replace Master Builder and Sage 300 Construction, which replaces Timberline. Throughout the rest of the year up through November the following changes will occur:

• Sage Peachtree and Simply Accounting will become Sage 50 in the U.S. and Canada, respectively
• Sage MAS 90 and 200 will become Sage 100 ERP
• Sage Accpac will become Sage 300 ERP
• MAS 500 will become Sage 500 ERP
• Timberline Office will become Sage 300 Trade Specialty
• Sage Fund Accounting will become Sage 100 Nonprofit Accounting

In addition, Miller noted that several brands will not be changing in the foreseeable future. These include: Sage ACT!, SalesLogix, ERP X3, BusinessWorks, BusinessVision, DacEasy, PFW, Pro, and Millennium.

“We realize how big this is and people have to digest and understand it.

“The more this evolves, the more tangible evidence we can give, the more educated they can be, the more they’ll endorse it,” said Miller. “Dennis [Frahmann] and I have done lots of one on ones [with partners] up to now and taken all of that feedback into account. My confidence in our ability to execute this plan is the fact I am confident in Pascal [Houillon], he’s been through it already, and in Dennis. He is an astute brand expert and he’s been through it at the enterprise level as well.”
